  1. What is a Trike?

"Tri" means three wheels.  Trike is short for a three-wheeled motorcycle (Bike)  (top)

  2. Why do people convert their motorcycles to a Trike?

People convert to a Trike for a variety of reasons, including rider and co-rider comfort and more stability.  Other riders have physical limitations and a Trike allows them to still enjoy the experience of riding a motorcycle.  Many women are riding Trikes because they don't have to worry about holding up a heavy motorcycle. 3. Can I convert any motorcycle to a Trike?

Yes, you can, but JBJ Cycles specializes in Honda Gold Wings, which are the most popular conversions and the one for which more products are available.  We can also convert Harley Davidson motorcycles.  (top)

  4. Is it expensive to convert a motorcycle to a Trike?

The price of the conversion kit varies, depending on which manufacturer and model you choose.  Our prices always include installation, plus tax and license, if applicable.  (top)

  5. How hard is it to learn how to ride a Trike?

Since it's a three-wheeled vehicle and therefore free of the balancing issues in a two-wheeled motorcycle, learning to ride a Trike is easier than a traditional motorcycle.  And with today's modern designs, suspension systems, braking systems, etc. the handling is significantly improved over earlier models.  Brute strength is no longer a requirement, which is probably why we're building Trikes for more and more ladies.  (top)

The Gold Wing Road Riders Association has recently implemented Trike riding courses for both beginners and for experienced riders.  Contact your local GWRRA chapter or click here for the Association's national web site.  (top)

  6. I'm only 5 feet tall and weigh 130 pounds?  Can I ride a Trike?

Unlike a two-wheeled motorcycle which requires at least one foot on the ground to balance the bike, a Trike has three wheels and your feet never touch the ground.  You're always balanced, stopped or moving and there's nothing to hold up.  Your feet rest on pegs or on a floorboard 100% of the time, moving or stopped.  (top)

  7. Do I need a special driver's license to operate a Trike?

In California, with a Class "C" driver's license, you may legally operate a three-wheeled motorcycle (Trike or motorcycle with a sidecar).  Other states may be different, so check your local laws for the exact requirement.  (top)

  8. Do I need a helmet to ride a Trike?

You're still riding a motorcycle, so check with your state's Department of Motor Vehicles for helmet requirements.  In California, you are required to wear a helmet while riding a Trike or any motorcycle.  (top)

  9. What about riding gear for a Trike?

Riding gear is a personal preference, but as a wise person once said, "You should cover those parts of the body that you want to re-use."  (top)
